In 2020, Northside Wizards established an Officials’ Hall of Fame to recognise the long term service of its referees, technical officials and supervisors. The Officials’ Hall of Fame recognises three tiers of service:
- Gold: 20 or more years
- Silver: 15-19 years
- Bronze: 10-14 years
The game does not operate without our officials, and it’s not an easy job at times for them to do, so to serve the association for a decade or more is an achievement worth celebrating! Read more about our dedicated officials below.
Steven Leong
Born in 1955 in Solomon Islands to a family of 5 boys and 3 girls, Steven attended the University of Technology-Sydney. He is married with 3 boys all of whom played basketball at St Joseph Nudgee and Northside Wizards with the youngest representing Wizards U/14 & U/16.
Highlights:
- Captained the Solomon Islands student team and won the Sydney Chinese Youth League and Australian Chinese Basketball Association competitions between 1980 to 1990
- First volunteered at 15 as bench scorer and referee in the ST George PCYC
- Received the 2017 Referee of the Year in the Thursday Senior Competition.
Steven has enjoyed officiating at Northside Wizards because of the friendships made with past and present officials and staff. Also, the respect from players, player’s friends and family helped keep him in the sport he loves most.
