  • Top 4 teams from WSL 2021 automatically qualify for Champ Division 2022. These schools are still required to nominate their teams for WSL 2022, but will not need to play in a Qualifying Tournament.
  • Qualifying Tournament
  • If only 4 other teams nominate (outside of the auto qualifiers) for any age group, they will automatically receive an invitation to compete in WSL 2022 Champ Division.
  • If 5 or more teams nominate then a Qualifying Tournament will take place.
  • Qualifying Tournament will be a single day tournament played in May 2022 for any age groups requiring one.
  • Proposed dates would be:

Junior Boys & Girls – Tuesday 3rd May 2022

Senior Boys & Girls – Wednesday 4th May 2022

  • Teams in the Qualifying tournament are vying for the last 4 places in the Championship Division. Those teams that are unsuccessful in Qualifying for the Championship Division will be placed into WSL Div 2 (provided there is at least 4 teams minimum)
  • Teams will be seeded based on WSL2021 final placing & then strength of application (for any new teams)
  • Boys use Size 7 Balls & Girls use Size 6 Balls
  • Full Round Robin. Play each team once. Every team guaranteed 10 games (if 8 teams in division).

  • WSL Championship Finals day
  • Proposed date would be Sunday 21st August
  • This day will be a day set aside for all grand final teams to compete & have a mini festival of school basketball to celebrate the season. Holding it 1 ½ weeks after the Semi Final games allows a build-up in each school community to get as many people to the games as possible & holding it on a Sunday afternoon/evening will allow for parents/family members to attend the games outside of work & will not clash with school association games likely played on a Saturday. No rep games scheduled on this weekend.
  • The day would be based out at the South Pine Sports Complex. Each game will have music & court announcing. Div 2 games will be usual timing for their Championship Finals. Championship Division will be fully timed games & will have stats. Changerooms will also be used for teams. Possibility of 3 man officiating for Senior Boys & Girls Championship Div Finals.
  • Proposed schedule would be:

1pm – Junior Boys Div 2

2pm – Senior Boys Div 2

3pm – Junior Girls Champ Div

4.30pm – Junior Boys Champ Div

6.00pm – Senior Girls Champ Div

7.30pm – Senior Boys Champ Div

  • All Star 5 Voting – will take place at the end of the round robin matches. Each coach & captain from each team will vote for their all star 5 (3 guards & 2 bigs) in their respective division. These players will then be presented their awards at the medal presentation of their relevant division Championship Finals.
