How does the competition work? When are the finals?

There will be a Winter Season in Terms 2 and 3 (April to September) and a Summer Season in Terms 4 and 1 (October to March), both with finals at the end of the season.

Division 1 games are normally played Friday nights (U12 to U18) to avoid the majority of rep game clashes.

Each Division will have a minimum of 6 teams and a maximum of 8 teams.

All age groups will move up at the start of each Summer Season in October.

Northside Wizards offers a Wiz Kidz skills development program for players from 4 to 10 years of age, including an U9 competition in a train and play format.  For more information see Wizkids Competitions – Northside Basketball Inc. (northsidewizards.com)

Can players be put into teams with their friends?

Whilst NGBL are not able to guarantee that players will be able to play together for Division 1, where possible we will enable this to occur, whilst ensuring the integrity of the competition and secondary to ensuring balanced teams.

For Division 2, we welcome requests for players to play together.  For those players wishing to register as a group, please email Cindy – [email protected] to enable the players to be added to a team for trials.

We can’t guarantee that friends will stay together if this results in unbalanced teams.  We make all efforts to place players in balanced teams based on their skill and ability and friend requests.

Can players play with friends in an older age group? They go to school together.

Players must play in their correct age group. There is some provision for players to play a second game in an older age group but this must be discussed with the Club Manager prior to trials. There is an additional cost for playing a second game.

When and where will training sessions be?

Training sessions are usually held on Mondays or Wednesdays based on Divisions. However, due to the number of teams, we may have training sessions on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  The earliest slots are given to the youngest teams. With around 50 teams to find slots for, NGBL will be running squad training for trials and grading games.  Throughout the season, there will be a mixture of squad training sessions and team based training.

Training times will only be released once we have created teams and schedules.

Do I need to buy a uniform?

Once games start, all players must wear plain black shorts (no pockets for safety reasons or large logos). Shorts are often available in the active wear section of stores like K-Mart, school wear section at Best & Less and from reception at Northside Indoor Sports Centre, Zillmere. All players will be provided with a club singlet for actual games. These singlets remain the property of Northside Girls Basketball League.

For training sessions players should wear their own reversible singlet or bring a light and dark singlet.

When and where are the games held?

Games will be held at Northside Indoor Sports Centre at 20 Cambewarra St, Zillmere. If the venue is unavailable, games may be held at Boondall or Brendale.

Your team manager will confirm the game times each week. This year the plan is for the games for the whole season to be scheduled at the beginning of the season. Minor changes may happen week to week. You can look up the confirmed game times yourself on the Northside Wizards website at BasketballConnect – Competition Management System (squadi.com) or via Basketball Connect.

Where can I look up the results of the games?

Fixtures and game results will be via Basketball Connect app or via the Northside Wizards website – BasketballConnect – Competition Management System (squadi.com).
