The association was originally formed in 1935 as Brisbane Women’s Basketball. In 1951 the name was changed to Brisbane Men’s and Women’s Basketball and in 1990 it became known as the Brisbane Community Basketball Association.
In 1993 the name Brisbane Men’s & Women’s Basketball Association Inc. was adopted, and the association traded as Brisbane Wizards Basketball. For over 30 years the association was based at McCook Park, Newmarket, with games being played on outdoor courts.
In 1993 a decision was made to rent indoor courts at Nudgee College and competitions were established for Under 14 & Under 16 age groups. In 1995 an additional competition for Under 12 players was established, however, these games were played at the Sandgate PCYC due to a lack of court availability at Nudgee College.
In April 1997 the management committee moved all junior and senior competitions to the Sports Centre at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. This was a newly established facility with 5 high-quality indoor courts. The Sports Centre continues to be the main venue used for junior and senior competitions today.
In October 2003 the Management Committee developed a 3-year plan to increase the membership of the association. This was successful and by late 2005 the association had doubled its membership (from 620 to almost 1300). At the same time, the trading name “Northside Wizards Basketball” was adopted as the association’s brand.
Due to the efforts of the 2003 Management Committee, the association has continued to grow and succeed in many areas of the organisation and in ensuing years it has received recognition from both Basketball Qld and Basketball Australia:

In 2009 NWB took over running the basketball competitions at the South Pine Sports Complex (formerly Northern Pines Basketball). Since that time, the competitions have grown significantly and the venue has now become the home of the Northside Wizards. In 2010 the NWB office was established at the venue and in 2012 it became the association’s official QBL venue.
The association remains hamstrung by a lack of indoor venues and actively seeks available court space. Together with the SPSC governing body (the South Pine Sports Association Inc) the association is a strong supporter of the draft MBRC Master Plan that includes expansion of the indoor centre.
