A Federal Labor government will provide $2m to assist Northside Wizards complete the conversion of a Zillmere warehouse to a 5 Court stadium if elected at the polls. The Shadow Minister for Sport, Mr Don Farrell and Labor candidate for Lilley Anika Wells made the commitment late last week.
Anika Wells said ‘This announcement will help Wizards have their own space to continue to grow’. ‘Labor is committed to supporting clubs and communities to improve local sporting facilities to give all Australian’s a fair go at sport and activity’ she added
Northside CEO Allan Woodford said ‘These funds will help us complete the Zillmere project and have the equipment and furnishings to undertake full operations’ early in 2020. ‘It’s a credit to all the volunteers, players and staff at Wizards that Labor sees the benefit of the much needed Courts and the community benefit the facility will bring – it’s a great boost and we’re absolutely ecstatic and grateful’ he said. ‘We’ve also contacted the other major political party to glean their support for the project given the benefits it will have for the community, and hopefully we’ll hear from them soon’ he added.
‘A lot of planning and internal discussions have taken place to date and concept drawings for the Stadium have been developed’. ‘Detailed plans are expected to be released prior to 30 June with refurbishment to commence shortly after’. Allan added
